quando si giunge alla fine dell' anno si
dice che e' giunto il momento di tirare le somme, di fare il consuntivo e snocciolare
dati, cifre, traguardi raggiunti e mancati.
Semplicemente mi sento di dire che
siamo stati bene insieme perche' ci lega un'amicizia, una comune origine,
comuni gusti letterari, cinematografici e culinari perche' impressi nel
nostro DNA che ha una memoria lunga, talvolta di generazioni, forse
incancellabile.
Noi siamo fortunati, molto fortunati; abbiamo due lingue, abbiamo due patrie.
La lingua di Dante e di Shakespeare, di Hemingway e di Umberto Eco.
La patria di Mazzini e di George Washington, di Alcide De Gasperi e quella di Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
Due lingue e due patrie, anche se di
quella in cui viviamo possiamo convintamente dire che ci stiamo bene e
come dicevano i nostri antenati "Hic manebimus optime" (Qui
resteremo molto bene).
Dunque guardiamo al futuro, alimentiamo la speranza,
che altro non e' che sogno ad occhi aperti, speranza di fare meglio e di piu'.
Complimenti a tutti i Direttori di OCICA per l'impegno profuso e il tempo dedicato. Tutti noi siamo
pronti per il nuovo anno ricco di numerosi eventi. Grazie soprattutto al nostro unico Paul
che e' stato il vero motore del nostro gruppo.
Grazie a tutti voi per la collaborazione e l'entusiasmo.

Dear OCICA friends,
The end of the year is upon us, a time in which
to reflect on everything we have accomplished, the goals we have achieved
and the challenges we have yet to overcome.
I simply wish to express thanks for a wonderful year
together and for the friendship and common bond we
share. We have the same national ties, the same tastes in film, food and literature,
tastes which have been handed down, generation after generation, until they seem to be indelibly ingrained in our DNA.
We have a proud legacy and an exciting future because we are blessed to have two languages, two nations: the
language of Dante and Shakespeare, of Hemingway and Umberto Eco. The
nations of Mazzini and George Washington, of Alcide De Gasperi and
Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
Having said this, we must admit a special fondness for this great country we live in,
or to quote our ancestors, "Hic manebimus optime" (Here we can live well).
And so we look to the future with hope, as we follow our dreams to a brighter tomorrow.
Many thanks to all the Directors of the OCICA board for
their hard work and dedication, especially to
our good friend Paul, the driving force behind our group. We look forward to an eventful
new year.
And to everyone who participated in our activities this year, thanks for your enthusiasm and support!
