Palladio's Villas - Bucolic Fantasies of the Venetian Nobility

2008 marked the five hundred year anniversary of Palladio's birth. Born in 1508 as Andrea di Pietro della Gondola, Palladio went on to become one of the most famous architects of the Italian Renaissance. His ingenious architectural solutions for churches and villas have been imitated through the centuries. In today's lecture, Dr. Leopardi will focus on the architect's countryside villas and discuss the grandeur and magnificence of the architecture as well as the light and spirited frescos executed by Veronese. Villas like Villa Barbaro Maser were the perfect embodiment of the Venetian's nobility's fantasy of bucolic life.
