Trama: Bologna 1938. Michele Casali è un
professore di disegno e ha una figlia diciassettenne, Giovanna, che
frequenta lo stesso istituto. La ragazza è oggettivamente bruttina e il
padre fa di tutto per convincerla del contrario. Pupi Avati torna a
guardare al passato e alla Bologna che tanto ama raccontare perché luogo
della sua gioventù. Questa volta lo sguardo è puntato su una situazione
di infelicità che, in qualche misura, oggi è ancor più devastante. Il
sentirsi non adeguate fisicamente ai modelli imperanti da parte di
adolescenti in formazione. Giovanna soffre di qualche scompenso psichico
ma suo padre ha speso tutta la sua vita nell'operazione che la bella (e
invidiata) madre bolla come illusoria. Avati è come sempre abile nel
ricostruire atmosfere d'epoca e ad offrire ritratti psicologici di
perdenti o, comunque, di 'umili' nel senso più profondo e umano del
termine.
Plot:
Bologna 1938. Michele Casali is an Art teacher at one of
the most prestigious high schools in Bologna and has a 17 year-old
daughter, Giovanna, who attends the same school. The girl is ugly, but her
father has tried his best to nurture her self-esteem while she was growing
up and to convince her to the contrary. Pupi Avati once again decided to
tell us a story in his beloved Bologna, the city where he grew up. This
time, he portrays a character whose unhappiness about her looks make her a
very insecure person inside. Giovanna is also psychologically unstable,
but her father spent his whole life to build for her daughter what his
wife calls an "illusion of beauty and normality". Avati shows
again his gift for historical rendition of facts and ordinary
people.

Trama: Bologna, anni '20. Il giovane Nello,
figlio di un vitale e burbero sarto il cui cliente abituale e' il Vaticano
(che gli ha commissionato abiti per ben quattro pontefici), e'
completamente impreparato alle difficolta' della vita; timido e impacciato
com'e', si comporta goffamente in ogni situazione, e a maggior ragione nei
riguardi dell'amore. Per giunta, cercando di sistemarsi sentimentalmente
per assecondare i desideri del padre, si imbatte in una bellissima ragazza
cieca, ricca e viziata, di cui si innamora alla follia. L'amore arrivera',
ma non necessariamente questo comportera' una normalizzazione nella sua
vita. Tornato alla regia dopo i flop commerciali degli ultimi film, Avati
pesca a piene mani nel suo classico repertorio di memorie piccolo borghesi,
confezionando una vicenda che possiede molto delle sue migliori commedie,
quali "Una gita scolastica" e "Festa di laurea".
Plot: Nello Balocchi, a 35-year-old
teacher of Greek and Latin, is invited to Bologna by his father, the owner
of the Papal tailor's shop in Rome. His father hopes Nello will find a
soul mate in Bolgna and thus produce an heir for the business. Nello stays
in a guesthouse run by Arabella, a wise woman who already knows all about
his situation. He shares a room with Domenico, a crafty barber from
Naples. After several unsuccessful efforts, Nello meets Angela, an
exuberant, beautiful young blind girl with whom he falls hopelessly in
love. The girl's father and Nello's parents do not approve of the
relationship, but the real problem is Angela's temperament.

Trama: Una giovane e bella donna, Veronica (Caterina

Tange). One night Veronica is assaulted on her way home, and she wakes up in
the arms of her neighbor Gabriele, who has come to her rescue. Veronica turns
out to be pregnant, and in an effort to save her marriage she and Gabriele
embark on a surreal, and wryly funny, investigation into what really happened
on the night of the attack. Director Corsicato’s ironic eye for extreme
situations and fantastic detail makes Seed a dreamy, surreal tale of love.

Trama: Insensibile e senza scrupoli, Mattia e'
un cinico imprenditore edile votato alla fede del "risparmio come
massimo guadagno". Dopo aver rinunciato a costruire i ponteggi di
sicurezza per il suo cantiere, si ritrova improvvisamente a far fronte ai
ricatti di uno sfortunato operaio egiziano (lo strepitoso Hassani Shapi),
caduto da un tetto e costretto al gesso dalla vita in su. Ragione del
ricatto, un concorso da cioccolataio da frequentare sotto mentite spoglie
– quelle di Kamal appunto, impossibilitato a partecipare – in cambio
di una non denuncia per le condizioni disumane del cantiere. Per Mattia,
si apriranno le porte di un mondo sconosciuto fatto di integrazione
culturale e di dignitosissima poverta', nel tentativo di redimersi dalla
sua vita precedente ed evitare, al tempo stesso, una scottante denuncia
alle autorita'.
Plot: Mattia, a 32 year old building
contractor in Perugia has lots of style, nice suits, nice car, gorgeous looking
girlfriend but behind this facade is cutting corners with site safety and
hiring immigrant workers. Taking to the golf course hoping to meet wealthy,
upmarket clients he meets a doctor who offers him a contract to build a
luxurious weekend getaway but not one Euro above 300,000 will he pay. Meantime
back on site to save 12,000 euros in scaffolding he has illegally-hired worker
Kamal working on a roof without any safety nets and Kamal falls from the roof,
finishing up in hospital with his entire upper body in plaster. Kamal unknown
to Mattia has won a position in a chocolate making competition at a nearby
factory who are celebrating their centenary of operation. Before leaving Egypt,
Kamal was a pastry cook in Egypt. By doing the chocolate course he hopes to
gain a diploma to start a new career in Italy as a chocolate maker. First prize
is enough money to start his own business. So Mattia has a choic;face the
police or stand in for Kamal at the advanced chocolate making course. Egyptian
laborer versus trendy Italian businessman. So goodbye pony tail, hello perm,
goodbye smart phone and clothes. In the class are: a middle aged woman, a man
whose father owns 4 pastry shops and the beautiful, passionate Cecilia, whose
love life is littered with liars. Feeling sorry for our stand in Kamal she
offers to coach Mattia, after hours, to improve his chocolate making. Mattia
leads a double life of Egyptian by day, homework and contractor by day and
night transforming in the process from being self centred to finding love and
life at the same time

Trama: Titta Di Girolamo ha cinquant'anni,

Trama: Adele e Marcello nascono nello stesso
momento e nella stessa stanza, ma da madri differenti. Inevitabile che i
loro destini siano in qualche modo intrecciati: crescono insieme nella
Bologna fascista, giocano insieme, e per gioco si fanno sposare da Loris,
un loro amico chierichetto. Ma la guerra incombe, e tutto e' destinato a
mutare: i due sono costretti a dividersi, e ad impostare un'esistenza
senza la presenza dell'altro. Nonostante questo, non smetteranno di amarsi
ne' di cercarsi, e grazie, di nuovo, all'aiuto di Loris (nel frattempo
diventato prete) potranno sperare ancora in un futuro insieme. L'esordio
alla regia di Ambrogio Lo Giudice, uno dei piu' apprezzati registi di
videoclip italiani, e' un delicato bozzetto, che sa rimanere
miracolosamente in bilico senza scadere ne' nel sentimentalismo, ne'
nell'escatologico. Merito di attori ispirati (finalmente un Zingaretti
"liberato" dagli obblighi televisivi, ed una Rocca sempre piu'
matura ed espressiva), e di una sceneggiatura mai banale. Lo Giudice, pur
fra innumerevoli difficolta' produttive ed economiche, e' riuscito a
comporre un film interessante ed ispirato, direttamente debitore del Pupi
Avati anni '80.
Plot: An epic and emotionally charged story

Trama: Gianni, un uomo di mezza eta', vive con
sua madre, nobildonna decaduta, in una vecchia casa nel centro di Roma.
Tiranneggiato dalla madre, trascorre le giornate fra le faccende

Plot: Gianni, a middle-age man, lives with
his mother, an impoverished noble woman, in an old apartment in downtown Rome.
Tyrannized by his mother, he spends all of his time between doing house work

manager asks him to keep for a couple of days his own mother. In exchange he
will forgive the several association past dues that lately Gianni has not been
able to pay. Gianni is forced to accept. Surprisingly the manager shoves up not
only with his mother but also with his aunt. In the apartment the situation
becomes difficult but Gianni, heroically, does his very best to please the
three old women. The worst is coming when Gianni’s doctor comes to visit him

Trama: L'alba del 30 aprile 1945, cinque
giorni dopo la liberazione, Osvaldo Valenti e Luisa Ferida, coppia celebre
nella vita oltre che sullo schermo. Erano stati due divi di quel cinema
dei "telefoni bianchi" che il fascismo aveva incoraggiato
incantando quasi sempre personaggi estremi e negativi. Anche la loro vita
privata era dominata dal disordine: entrambi cocainomani e, si diceva,
sessualmente promisqui.
Dopo l'armistizio dell'8 settembre Valenti e Ferida si
trasferirono al Nord e aderirono alla Repubblica di Salo'. Consegnatisi ai
partigiani pochi giorni prima della liberazione, i due negarono ogni
addebito. Valenti giustifico' i suoi traffici col bisogno continuo di
stupefacenti, sminui' le presunte malefatte attribuendole alla
diffamazione e all'invidia, protestando un'innocenza che non venne mai
creduta. Chissa' se alla loro rovina non contribuirono i film che ne
avevano fabbricato la leggenda...
Plot: Idolized by the public, Valenti and
Ferida were a famous and infamous couple on and off screen. Stars of the
Fascist endorsed "white telephone" cinema, their private lives were
as wild as the villainous, depraved characters they portrayed. Driven by an
uncontrollable lust for sensation and all consuming cocaine habits. Well at
last that was the rumor. They denied every charge leveled against them,
claiming the crimes attributed to them were inventions, the fruits of envy.
However Valenti and Ferida had lent their glamour to the fascist regime and
collaborated with the Germans. They had to pay. Thus the curtain fell on these
two celebrated actors, Valenti as ever in the role of Villain and Ferida once
more playing the doomed woman.

Trama: Il divo e' centrato sulla figura di
Giulio Andreotti. Quest'uomo descritto come apparentemente freddo e privo
di qualsiasi reazione emotiva, e' stato a capo di una potente corrente
della Democrazia Cristiana, il partito-stato che ha governato
ininterrottamente il Paese dalla fine della II guerra mondiale al 1994.
Andreotti e' certamente uno dei personaggi politici che hanno segnato di
piu' la nostra storia nazionale; e' stato l'uomo di Stato che per molto
tempo ha impersonato il potere nella sua accezione piu' pura ed
imperscrutabile venendo definito di volta in volta, la Sfinge, il Gobbo,
La Volpe, il Papa nero, Belzebu' e, giustappunto, il Divo Giulio,
divenendo nel film cosi', forse involontariamente, il simbolo di una
riflessione sui mali del nostro Paese. Sul politico che e' stato
collaboratore di De Gasperi, atlantista convinto e filo palestinese, amico
degli Americani e dei Sovietici, ascoltatissimo in Vaticano cosi' come a
Botteghe Oscure, e riconosciuto da tutti uno statista, pesa pero'
nell'immaginario collettivo la responsabilita' principale per l'uccisione
di Aldo Moro, pesa su di lui nel film come un macigno impossibile da
rimuovere.
E' il politico che passa attraverso morti misteriose (Pecorelli,
Calvi, Sindona, Ambrosoli) a cavallo tra gli anni Settanta ed Ottanta in
cui lo si riterra' a vario titolo coinvolto ma e' l'unico grande
protagonista della Prima Repubblica che superera' Tangentopoli senza
esserne scalfito.
Finira' si sotto processo per collusione
con la mafia nel '93 ma alla fine verra' assolto. Nel Film sono
ricostruiti in maniera paradossale, seguendo il filo delle deposizioni
rese dai pentiti di mafia, i presunti incontri con Riina e con altri capi-mafia.
Sembra quasi che Sorrentino voglia rendere la dinamica di tali incontri
incredibile, descrivendo un Andreotti paradosso di se stesso, che,
normalmente, anche a messa, e' sempre protetto e super scortato, in tali
occasioni si concede ad incontrare senza apparenti protezioni efferati
criminali in luoghi a dir poco incredibili.
L'Andreotti di Sorrentino e' un uomo che ha
consacrato tutto se stesso al Potere. Un Potere che per ottenere il bene
sembra costretto a fare il male. Il Film traccia anche il ritratto a
tratti caricaturale dei principali esponenti della corrente Andreottiana,
Pomicino, detto '0 ministro", leader della corrente in Campania,
Evangelisti, fido braccio destro ciociaro, Sbardella, detto "Lo
squalo", imponente capomanipolo a Roma, Ciarrapico, oggi senatore
berlusconiano, braccio economico della corrente, il Cardinal Angelini,
detto "Sua Sanita' " per la forte influenza nel settore medico-sanitario.
Il regista dedica una parte importante e
decisiva del Film al passaggio storico in cui Andreotti sfiora l'elezione
a Presidente della Repubblica, che non si capisce quanto involontariamente,
sara' proprio la mafia a far saltare, con l'uccisione del giudice Falcone.
Ma dinanzi al mancato raggiungimento dell'obiettivo atteso da una vita,
egli pero' sa dimostrare "come si sta al mondo".
Plot: Giulio Andreotti is the synonym of
power in Italy for over four decades. At the beginning of the Nineties,
this impassive yet insinuating, ambiguous yet reassuring figure appears
set to assume his seventh mandate as Prime Minister without arrogance and
without humility. Approaching seventy, Andreotti is a gerontocrat who,

meaning of awe, since he is accustomed to seeing it stamped on the faces

Trama: La
vita di Mariano e Miranda, sposati da dieci anni, sembra perfetta. Vivono
in un tranquillo paesino della toscana, gestiscono un banco di frutta e
verdura, sognano di poter acquistare un piccolo negozio dove trasferire la
propria attivita', ma per fare questo servono molti soldi. I due si amano,
sembrano davvero una coppia indissolubile... sembrano. Quando in paese
arriva un fotografo, nel suo obiettivo finisce per caso la bellezza
prorompente di Miranda, e le propone di fare un calendario. La coppia,
dopo qualche tentennamento, accetta e parte per le Seychelles; ma il mondo
di plastica dello showbiz luccica agli occhi della giovane donna che viene
tentata dai vizi di questo nuovo stile di vita. Miranda e' comunque legata
alle sue origini e non si lascera' abbagliare da questa luce. Forse...
Plot: Mariano e Miranda is a happily
married couple who sell fruits and vegetables in a little village in
Tuscany. Their happy married life is disrupted when a fashion photographer

Plot:

Plot:

Plot:

Plot:
Fabio, a 30-year-old social assistant at Rebibbia, Rome’s largest prison,
is known as “the professor.” Most of Fabio’s energy is focused on
the prisoners’ lives, as he tries to make them believe in their future.
One day a new prisoner arrives, Sparti, a man convicted of murder. Sparti
is a liar and he fakes epilepsy to obtain favors. Fabio realizes that
Sparti is his long lost father who abandoned him when he was a child. At
first, Sparti does not recognize Fabio, but when the drug dealing father
tries to blackmail Fabio into getting him a one-day release from prison,
Fabio reveals his identity to Sparti and there is a dramatic confrontation
between father and son. Sparti tries to regain his son’s love, telling
him that he has missed his family terribly. Fabio recalls the suffering
that he, his sister, and his mother had to bear for being different,
abandoned, and without a father. The newfound relationship between the two
will bind them again, for a while…

Geremia, un vecchio usuraio dell’Agro pontino, e’ un
personaggio laido, sempre pronto ad approffittare di ogni occasione per
guadagnare denaro. L’universo che lo circonda, anche se apparentemente
rispettabile, e’ popolato da personaggi ancora piu’ discutibili e
sgradevoli. Quando Geremia presta dei soldi a un pedre che non riesce a
far fronte alle spese per il matrimonio della bellissima figlia Rosalba,
Geremia si innamora di Rosalba che, alla fine, si dimostrera’ ancora piu’
cinica e insensibile del vecchio usuraio.
Plot:
A darkly humorous near-nihilism pervades the singular
vision of director Paolo Sorrentino in The Family Friend (an ironic title
if ever there was one). Geremia (perfectly played by Giacomo Rizzo) is a
neighborhood loan shark who professes a deep (and deeply false) concern
for the poor people who use his services. Sixty-ish and cursed with an
ugly face, he still lives with his bed-ridden mother while conducting his
squalid business from the backroom of his tailor shop. When the beautiful
Rosalba’s parents ask Geremia for money to help pay for her wedding, he
negotiates a lower rate of interest with Rosalba herself – all she has
to do is to let him have sex with her. The director constructs a dark
world – both visually and morally – and uses production design and
camera movement to create a truly unique mise en scene that emphasizes
spare spaces and distances, emotional and otherwise, between people.
Sorrentino’s pitch black comedic style and thematics show the brilliance
of his vision plus the disturbing and unique artistry he possesses.

vivere in un mondo tutto suo, in una dimensione letteraria, incantato
dalla voce alta e sublime dei poeti che ama di piu'. Le vicende del
mondo sembrano solo sfiorarlo. Si e' innamorato di una donna che tutte
le notti sogna di sposare. Si chiama Vittoria e purtroppo non vuole sapere
niente di lui. Anche lei si occupa di letteratura, ma da studiosa, sta
infatti scrivendo la biografia del piu' grande poeta iracheno, il quale,
dopo aver abitato a Parigi per tantissimi anni, adesso torna a Bagdad
nella sua vecchia casa perche', nel caso in cui la guerra scoppiasse,
vorrebbe trovarsi insieme ai suoi concittadini. Vittoria e Attilio lo
incontrano per un momento a Roma...

Plot:
As in his Oscar-winning "Life is Beautiful", Benigni in
his new film "The Tiger and the Snow" uses comedy to throw light on
man's darker side. Benigni plays Attilio, a hyperactive poet, who finds
himself in Iraq immediately after the American invasion. Vittoria, the
woman of his dreams (literally he dreams to marry her every night) has
been wounded after she moves to Baghdad to work with an Iraqi poet, Faud.
And so Attilio races to be at her side, but because he only has eyes for
her, he barely notices the war raging around him. Instead his slapstick,
absurd antics – obliviously walking through checkpoints and mine fields
– highlight the war's absurdity. In the end, while Attilio may be
powerless over the American occupation and what is doing to his Iraqi
friends, he never loses the power of poetry to see things, as he wants
them to be. The film also sports a cameo and award-winning original song
from Tom Waits.

Plot:
Gianni Amelio (Lamerica, The Keys to the House) makes road
movies into an art form; it's a genre he often uses to chart personal
transformation through uncharted territories. In this film (based on a
novel by Ermanno Rea) an Italian steel company has sold a blast furnace to
China, but an idealistic maintenance man named Vincenzo Buonavolonta'
has discovered a flaw in a small but important part of the mechanism. He
has fixed the part and must travel to China to deliver it. But it's not
that easy. Before long, Vincenzo finds himself completely lost in the
coutry's chaotic industrial scene. Fortunately, a young Chinese woman,
named Liu, agrees to be his guide, but both characters are forced to
travel farther than they had planned and ultimately must come to terms
with their ideals and with each other.
Amelio charts their journey with an epic visual sense,
capturing the picturesque landscapes and congested cityscapes without

Trama:
Per
aver diritto a una licenza di dieci giorni, che gli evitera' di partire per
il fronte africano, un soldato settentrionale, Antonio, vincendo la
propria ritrosia per il matrimonio (e anche perche' le vuole veramente
bene) accetta il consiglio della fidanzata, Giovanna - una focosa
napoletana - e la sposa. Fintosi pazzo, per non doversi piu' separare da
lei, Antonio viene scoperto e spedito sul fronte russo, dove, finita la
guerra, risulta come "disperso". Convinta che il marito sia ancora vivo,
dopo averlo aspettato tenacemente, a lungo, Giovanna parte per la Russia,
lo cerca a Mosca e in Ukraina e, finalmente, lo ritrova. Salvato dal
congelamento e dall'amnesia, che lo avevano colpito durante la ritirata,
Antonio s'e' rifatto una famiglia, unendosi alla sua soccorritrice, che gli
ha dato anche una figlia. Disperata e decisa a dimenticarlo, Giovanna
torna in Italia e distrugge tutti i ricordi della loro vita in comune.
Qualche tempo dopo, e' Antonio, sconvolto dalla sua ricomparsa, a venire in
Italia per ritrovare Giovanna. Unitasi a un operaio, la donna e' diventata
madre a sua volta, per cui, pur confessando l'amore reciproco, lei e
Antonio, decidono, per il bene dei figli, di separarsi per sempre.
Plot:
The first Italian
feature film shot in Moscow was directed by the renowned Vittorio De Sica
and produced by Carlo Ponti. Sophia Loren stars as Giovanna, an Italian
woman who marries Antonio (Marcello Mastroianni) 12 days before the
outbreak of WWII. Antonio has no desire to fight in the conflict, and he
fakes insanity to try to avoid the draft, but officials see through the
charade. Antonio is sent to the Russian front, where the soldiers are
plagued by freezing temperatures and short supplies of rations. He is
found half-dead in the cold by a Russian peasant girl, Mascia (Lyudmila
Savelyeva). She takes him in, and eventually, they marry. Giovanna waits
in vain for word on the fate of her husband, who is officially declared
missing in action. She goes to Russia to try to find him, searching
records and cemeteries. Finally, she discovers first his new wife, then
him, and reluctantly decides not to fight the situation. Returning home to
Italy, she marries an older factory worker, Ettore (Germano Longo), and
they have a son (who is played by the real-life son of Ponti and Loren).
But Antonio still longs for Giovanna, and he returns to Italy to discuss a
reconciliation with her.

rivive a partire dagli ultimi tre mesi della sua vita tormentata:
alla fine di una straordinaria carriera, abbandonata da Aristotile Onassis
e dalla sua preziosissima voce, vive a Parigi come una reclusa di lusso.
Un improbabile impresario, che in passato ha organizzato sue tournee,
di passaggio nella capitale francese al seguito di un complesso punk,
le offre con insistenza di ritornare sulle scene proponendole di interpretare
in video le opere che la cantante ha splendidamente interpretato solo in sala d'icisione.
Maria, che vive in volontaria separazione dalle luci della ribalta,
in un primo momento sembra accettare l'offerta.
Plot:
The myth of Divine Maria Callas, the most famous opera singer of all times,
returns in the last three months of her tormented life: at the end of a
fantastic career, abandoned by Aristotle Onassis and also by her very
precious voice, she lives in Paris as a wealthy recluse.
An improbable impresario, who in the past has organized some of her tourneys,
happens to visit the French capital while following a punk group and insists
that she returns to the limelight by interpreting in videos operas that

Maria, who lives voluntarily away from the limelight,
for a while seems to be pleased with the idea.

Plot:
Director Enzo Monteleone's devastating antiwar film takes the battle of
El Alamein (Oct. 23 - Nov. 4, 1942), where Italy suffered a crushing defeat,
as his subject and uses it to fashion a paean to the horrors of war that easily
holds up to other modern takes on similar themes. Although the soldiers that Monteleone
follows are serving in Mussolini's fascist military, the film eschews any overt ideology,
choosing instead to focus on the men themselves and the conditions of extreme hardship they
are forced to endure. Besieged by ground and air attacks from the British, while trying to
deal with unbelievable heat, dysentery, hunger, dehydration and a complete lack of back-up,
these soldiers are shown to be the cannon fodder they are - following misguided orders,
scurrying back and forth in the desert at a loss to prevent catastrophe.
The cumulative effect of witnessing this debacle leaves audiences shaken to the core.

un piano meticoloso sincronizzando gli orologi ma, nell'eseguirlo, non riescono
a farne una giusta e finiscono con l'abbandonare il progetto e
restare poveracci come sempre. Mario Monicelli ha diretto questa storiella
in bianco e nero facendola come una classica presa in giro dei grandi film
di rapine come "Rififi." Gli attori sono di prima classe: Toto',
Mastroianni, Gassman e la Cardinale.
La musica e' brillante.

plan, using split-second timing, as is done in huge thefts. But when they

Daniel Boltansky (Daniel Auteuil) vive con la moglie, Nicoletta,
(Greta Scacchi), un'avvocatessa italiana molto affascinante, e con il figlio
di lei, Fabrizio, nato da un precedente legame, in una villa su un lago in
Svizzera. Daniel scrive romanzi di successo che pero' lui firma con uno
pseudonimo. Mentre si reca a Capri al matrimonio di Fabrizio, Daniel
incontra una ragazza misteriosa e sensuale (Anna Mouglalis). Tra i due
scatta una passione travolgente e passano la notte assieme. Il mattino dopo,
al matrimonio, Daniel scopre che la ragazza e' la sposa del figlio. Lui,
Daniel, viene da una modesta famiglia polacca, di origine ebraica,
trapiantata in Francia ai primi del secolo. Il primo suo romanzo,
considerato un capolavoro, ha probabilmente una macchia. Quale? Qualcuno,
con un piano maniacale e infallibile, ha scoperto qual'e' e vuole da lui
molto denaro a titolo di risarcimento per una presunta colpa che risalirebbe
ai suoi vent'anni. Daniel ha un solo modo per capire che sta accadendo; sa
che deve assecondare l'ingegnosa trappola che gli e' stata preparata. E si
lascia andare lentamente al vertiginoso richiamo del passato, all'oscurita'
che l'ha generato.
Come in tutti i thriller ben fatti, visto il film, ognuno pensa di aver
capito la trama a modo suo. Non sempre ci si trova tutti d'accordo sul modo
di interpretarlo. Questo film e' uno di quelli: piu' gente lo vede, piu'
interpretazioni vengono fatte.
Per questo e' importante che ci fermiamo qualche minuto, alla fine del film,
per vedere chi lo ha capito in un modo e chi nell'altro. Percio' state
attenti ai dettagli: alla fine faremo un quiz e vedremo chi sono i piu'
intelligenti. Ci state?
Plot:
Daniel Boltansky (Daniel Auteuil) lives with his wife, Nicoletta
(Greta Scacchi), a beautiful Italian attorney, and her son, Fabrizio, from a
previous marriage, in a villa on the shores of a Swiss lake. Daniel is a
very successful writer of thriller novels, which he signs with a
pseudonymous so that nobody knows his true identity. While on a trip to
Capri to attend Fabrizio's wedding, Daniel meets a mysterious and very
sensual girl (Anna Mouglalis). Both are taken by incontrollable passion and
spend a lusting night together. The next morning, at the wedding, Daniel
discovers that the girl is his son's bride. Daniel comes from a modest
Polish family, of Jewish extraction, transplanted in France in the early
part of the twentieth century. His first novel, considered his masterpiece,
seems to be stained. But how? Someone, with a maniacal and infallible plan,
has discovered the "how', and wants from him a large amount of money as
compensation for an assumed crime that was committed many years earlier.
Daniel has only one way to understand what's happening; he knows that he
must play along with the ingenious game dealt to him. Little by little he
let himself be swept by the vortex of the distant past, and by the darkness
that created it.

Puglia, immediato dopoguerra. Giordano Ricci (Antonio Albanese) e' un
omone dalla barba ispida che smina i campi di Torre Canne. Nessuno si
oppone a questa sua attivita' perche' a causa di "certe malinconie passate a
cui i medici non hanno saputo trovare rimedio neanche con la scossa"
Giordano e' da tutti considerato un malato di mente - in
quanto tale piu' sacrificabile di una persona sana. Le uniche a
preoccuparsi sono le vecchie zie (Angela Luce e Marisa
Merlini)che gestiscono la fabbrica di confetti di famiglia. La vita di
Giordano cambia all'improvviso con l'arrivo di
una lettera da Bologna. La mittente e' sua cognata Lilliana (Katia Ricciarelli),
vedova di suo fratello da pochi mesi, amata segretamente durante l'adolescenza. Giordano,
felice, non esita ad invitarla nella grande masseria di Torre Canne suscitando le ire
delle zie...
Quest'ultimo film di Avati e' un ritratto molto
ben fotografato di un'Italia lontana, dove le memorie dipingono la
bellezza e la semplicita' della vita durante un tempo quando sembrava che
non ci fosse altro che buona volonta' e gente semplice.

raggiungere l'Italia e Sandro puo' riabbracciare i genitori. Ma qualcosa
dentro di lui e' cambiato; il viaggio lo ha messo alla prova. Misuratosi
con la solitudine, la paura, le aspettative e le delusioni, Sandro e' ora
oltre la "linea d'ombra" che separa l'adolescenza dal mondo degli adulti.

Plot: Thirteen year-old
Sandro lives in Brescia, the only son of a wealthy family. The arrogance
and superiority this economic position brought with it is part of his
upbringing. One night, during a sailing trip though the Mediterranean with
his father and some friends, Sandro falls into the sea. Everyone else on
board is asleep and so no one notices. By the time his absence is noticed,
there is no sign of the boy. Although his family assumes he is dead,
Sandro is rescued by a fishing boat carrying illegal aliens to Italian
shores. Thus begins his adventure-filled return to Italy. As he confronts
hitherto unknown expectations, rejections, hopes and disillusionments,
Sandro crosses the thin line between adolescence and adulthood. His trip
back to his own life and family as a society outsider will irrevocably
mark his worldview. This is also a powerful exploration of one of
contemporary Italy's hot issues: illegal immigrants.

Trama: Due attori impegnati sul set di un film in costume
vivono la loro vita in parallelo ai ruoli che interpretano. Stefano (Luigi
Lo Cascio) e' un attore affermato che, pero', si sente insoddisfatto
e teme di perdere il successo. Laura (Sandra Ceccarelli) e' una
ragazza di quasi trent'anni agli esordi nella carriera, con un passato che
le ha tolto sicurezza. Quando Laura ottiene il ruolo di protagonista al
posto di un'altra attrice gia' conosciuta, Stefano rimane sorpreso e,
superata la diffidenza iniziale, si sente stranamente attratto dalla
capacita' che ha Laura nel confondere realta' e finzione. L'aspirazione di
Stefano ad una vita 'normale' lontano dal set si scontra con il desiderio
di affermazione personale di Laura attraverso il cinema. I due attori,
pero', sembrano riuscire a comunicare tra loro solo utilizzando le parole
dei personaggi che
interpretano.
Plot: Laura (Sandra
Ceccarelli), an aspiring actress in her thirties, meets Stefano (Luigi Lo
Cascio) at an audition. An established actor, Stefano is immediately taken
by Laura’s vulnerability. She is cast in a costume melodrama where Stefano
is the lead and it isn’t long before she is getting more attention - from
cast members and from other directors - than he is. It seems clear that
her star is rising faster than his. Stefano is taken aback by this turn of
events and his insecurity leads to jealousy and manipulation. Laura and
Stefano are lovers on and off screen, and the shooting of the
film-within-the-film becomes an emotional minefield. It’s soon difficult
to distinguish where the make-believe script ends and the real-life
begins. Unfolding within the fascinating mise-en-scene of a movie set,
this delicate, yet strong portrait of love and affection proved one of the
Italian successes of last season, and confirms the talent of the two
leads, Sandra Ceccarelli and Luigi Lo Cascio, who years ago were awarded
as Best Actress and Best Actor in Venice, for “The Light of My Eyes”,
their first film together.

parte. Per cercare il suo posto nel mondo vuole tornare in Italia alla
ricerca delle sue radici. A Ferrara trova lavoro come allenatore di una
squadra di football americano. In una giovane studentessa di musica, Paola
Angelini, scoprira' anche l'amore e si trovera' di fronte alla stessa
scelta fatta da suo nonno settanta anni prima.

Giannini e Paul Sorvino.

queste. E’ molto ben fatto, molto buffo ma, nello stesso tempo, molto
umano. Ognuno di noi non puo’ fare a meno di immedesimarsi in una o piu’
di queste fasi, sia che sia passato di la’ tanto tempo fa’, o in un tempo
piu’ recente.
Tommaso, giovane
disoccupato, e’ travolto dalla passione per Giulia e vive tutte le fasi
dell’INNAMORAMENTO. Barbara e Marco affrontano la
loro prima CRISI dopo
anni d’amore. E’ un figlio la soluzione piu’ idonea per risolvere i loro
problemi? Ornella e’ una vigilessa urbana che, per vendicarsi del TRADIMENTO del marito,
decide di multare tutti gli automobilisti uomini che le capitano a tiro.
Goffredo e’ un brillante pediatra che non vuole rassegnarsi all’idea
dell’ABBANDONO da

Plot: Every bit as magical as Amelie, this whimsical adult
fairy tale unfolds inside the cavernous Museo del Cinema (the Mole
Antonelliana - the tallest building in Italy - Antonelliana because
designed by the architect Antonelli) in Turin, Italy. One fateful evening,
dreamy socially awkward Martino, the museum timid night watchman, comes to
the aid of Amanda, a sexy fast food worker. She is on the run from the
police after dousing her overbearing boss in hot oil. Martino's kingdom of
silent movie characters becomes a sanctuary for Amanda while she waits for
her charismatic but criminal boy friend Angel to come to the rescue.
Spellbound by the museum, Amanda develops a surprising romantic connection
with Martino, who until now has found most of his companionship on screen.
Thorn between her new-found feelings for Martino and her troubled

polizia la sta inseguendo e lei ha bisogno di un posto dove nascondersi.
Martino la fa entrare nel suo mondo e tra i due si instaura un rapporto di

Plot: Italian
director Gianni Amelio (L’America, The Way We Laughed) returns after a
six-year hiatus with his hearth-rending adaptation of Giuseppe Pontiggia’s
novel “Born Twice.” The story follows a father and his mentally and
physically handicapped teenaged son whom, surprisingly, he has never met.
But Gianni (Kim Rossi Suart) has been asked to accompany his son Paolo
(Andrea Rossi) to a clinic in Berlin for specialized treatment, and the
story emerges around their difficult and budding relationship. At the
clinic, Gianni meets Nicole (the excellent Charlotte Rampling) who is
herself the mother of a mentally handicapped child, and their relationship
becomes an additional leverage point for Gianni’s growing self- awareness.
Amelio has long impressed with his deft handling of dramatic narratives
that express deep human values. His ability to evoke nuanced performances
while alluding to larger sociological themes is renowned. The film offers
a rigorous and unflinching gaze at the challenges facing families with
severe disabilities.

Comments by Carlo Rocco: Last January Marie
and I saw this movie at Palm Spring International Film Festival. It was
recognized as one of the best films of the festival, and certainly the
best film in Italian Language. For those interested in learning Italian:
the language spoken in this film is perfect modern Italian with no
regional dialects or accents.

Trama: Michele (Giuseppe Cristiano), un
ragazzino di 10 anni che vive in uno sperduto paesino dell’Italia
Meridionale, scopre un altro ragazzo, Filippo (Mattia Di Piero),
incatenato e imprigionato in una buca scavata in un podere abbandonato.
Michele viene a sapere, guardando le notizie alla TV, che Filippo e’ stato
sequestrato a scopo di riscatto. Le cose diventano peggiori quando lui si
accorge che i suoi stessi genitori sono coinvolti nel rapimento. Questo
film ci pone una domanda molto interessante. Cosa avremmo fatto, da
bambini, se avessimo scoperto che i nostri genitori erano coinvolti in un
orrendo delitto? Michele ha un buon senso del bene e del male ma, nello
stesso tempo, sa rendersi conto che non puo’ far niente per cambiare la
situazione. Dire alle autorita’ quel che sa significhesebbe fare arrestare
i suoi genitori. Malgrado cio’ lui rischia la propria vita per salvare
quella di un altro ragazzo ancora piu malandato di se stesso. Questo film,
fotografato magnificamente, fara’ si’ che non ve lo dimenticherete per
molto, molto tempo

Trama:Rosa (Sophia Loren) e’ la moglie di
Domenico Priore (Luca De Filippo, figlio di Eduardo). Il professor Luigi
Iannello (Luciano De Crescenzo), filosofo di Pozzuoli, fa tanti
complimenti a Rosa sia per la sua bellezza che per il suo ottimo ragu’.
Domenico, sentendosi trascurato dalla moglie, pensa che lei lo tradisca
con il professor Iannello e decide di svelare i suoi sospetti nel corso
del pranzo della domenica al quale sono invitati anche i coniugi Iannello.
La sua rivelazione provoca lo sconcerto generale e lo svenimento di Rosa
ma l'intervento affettuoso della figlia Giulianella (Alessandra Mussolini)
riporta la pace tra i coniugi e con la famiglia amica. La scena piu’ bella
e’ dal macellaio dove Rosa e le donne del vicinato finiscono a fare a
botte perche’ ognuna ha la sua idea sul come fare il miglior ragu’.
Plot:Rosa (Sophia Loren) is married to
Domenico Priore (Luca De Filippo, Eduardo De Filippo’s son). Their friend,
Professor Luigi Iannello (Luciano De Crescenzo), a philosopher from
Pozzuoli, flatters and compliments Rosa constantly, for both her beauty
and her delicious ragu sauce. Domenico, feeling neglected by his wife,
comes to believe that she is having an affair with Professor Iannello and
decides to air his suspicions over Sunday supper, in front of both
Iannello and his wife. His revelation shocks everyone and Rosa faints, but
thanks to their daughter Giulianella’s (Alessandra Mussolini) quick
intervention, everything is set straight between the couple and their
friends. One of the most memorable scenes takes place at the butcher shop,
where Rosa and the neighbors’ wives get into a catfight over who makes the
best ragu sauce.
